My World of Nature #2 – Arctic Epilogue (Giclée Print)
The “My World of Nature” series will be somewhat of a departure from James’ main body of work.  In this series, James has taken to portraying the image in his “mind’s eye” of past memories of nature at its most base, most core existence.  His attempt is to convey an image from his mind in a more realistic sense, the goal being to perhaps enable a sighted person a glimpse of the images his memory holds.
Working mostly in a darkened room for this work, James attempts to depict a mountain range scene he witnessed during his early travels as a sighted person.  As he portrays the image of his mind, his objective is to convey the feeling and sense of the stark, harsh coldness of that moment. The memory of the juxtaposition of the different elements of earth, rock, ice, wind and sky working in unison to produce such a raw yet beautiful image has stayed on James’ mind since he first witnessed it over 40 years ago. In this series, he has taken the beauty that God has bestowed upon everything in nature and through his mind’s eye has attempted to portray that beauty as if he is recalling it from only yesterday.

My World #52 – Dawn of Time (Giclée Print)
In this work, James is depicting his view of what a simple prehistoric horizon line must have looked like or would have looked like to him at any rate.  James has based his “My World” series primarily on how he sees things today.  Being legally blind for years, he has grown accustomed to “painting in his mind” and has endeavored to translate that mental image in to a physical image of what he actually, physically sees.  The physical act of “seeing” to James is reduced to viewing the world through a 1” monocle. When one’s world at any scale at all becomes a blur of colors and indefinite shapes, whether it be a child’s face or a high-rise building, requires one to trust one’s “mind’s eye” and to much more “feel the image” than to actually physically “see” it.
